Aravalli Bachao: 80,000+ People Unite.

New Delhi / NCR, India — In a massive display of environmental solidarity, over 80,000 people from across the country came together in recent days to support the Aravalli Bachao (Save Aravalli) movement, calling for stronger protection of the ancient Aravalli mountain range — one of India’s most ecologically important landscapes. The movement has gained fresh momentum amid legal debates over how the range should be defined and safeguarded under law. Aravalli Bachao Citizens Movement (ABCM) and allied groups, people from cities and rural areas — including environmental activists, students, professionals, and local communities — participated in rallies, discussions, and awareness events focused on stopping harmful mining, construction and ecological degradation in the Aravalli region.

Supporters have also urged the central government to pursue UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status for the entire Aravalli range, highlighting its role in regulating climate, preserving groundwater, protecting biodiversity and improving air quality for millions of people in Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi and beyond.

The call for unity intensified after a Supreme Court ruling earlier this year touched on the legal definition of Aravalli hills, a move that environmentalists say could weaken protections for large portions of the ecosystem. Protesters stressed that comprehensive restoration and holistic legal safeguards — not fragmented definitions — are essential to save the range from further destruction. banners and placards that read “Save Aravallis,” “Protect Our Lungs,” and “No Defining Away Our Ecosystems”, reflecting broad public concern over the future of this ancient mountain system. Activists plan to continue their campaign with public campaigns, petitions and discussions with policymakers. Jaiswal .

Nalbari, Assam — Tension briefly escalated in parts of Nalbari district after Christmas decorations were allegedly vandalised, prompting swift police action. Senior police officials stated that the arrests were made based on preliminary evidence and witness statements. “We are investigating the matter thoroughly. Strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty of disturbing communal harmony,” a police officer said.

Local administration officials appealed for calm and peace, emphasizing that Nalbari has a history of communal coexistence. Community leaders from different faiths also urged residents not to spread rumours and to maintain harmony.

“Swiggy-Zomato Sahit Gig Delivery Workers Nationwide Strike Par”.

India (Nationwide) — A nationwide strike by gig delivery workers, including those associated with major platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, Blinkit, Zepto and others, has drawn attention across the country amid rising calls for improved working conditions and fair compensation in the platform-based economy. The action, organised by gig workers’ unions, was particularly visible around New Year’s Eve and December 25 protests, when large numbers of delivery partners logged off delivery apps and slowed service operations.

The striking workers have laid out key demands, such as higher per-kilometre pay, guaranteed minimum income, social security benefits, safer work conditions, and an end to pressure for ultra-fast delivery timelines that they argue compromise their safety and earnings.

Unions have pointed to declining pay structures and algorithm-driven targets as major grievances, saying these factors make gig work unpredictable and unsustainable in the long term. Workers also want formal recognition under labour laws to ensure basic protections, insurance and grievance mechanisms.

While the strike gained significant publicity and participation — with tens of thousands of delivery partners involved in flash protests — its impact on actual deliveries varied across cities, and services continued in many areas as platforms increased incentive payouts to encourage workers to remain online.

The action has sparked debate between labour advocates and platform companies, with political leaders condemning the treatment of gig workers and urging platforms to address core issues rather than downplay the protests.

The nationwide gig workers’ strike highlights the growing friction in India’s expanding gig economy, as frontline workers push for dignity, stability and long-term safeguards while continuing to play a critical role in keeping delivery services running.

Mumbai’s Iconic Parle-G Factory to Be Demolished.

Mumbai, January 30, 2026 — One of the city’s most nostalgic landmarks — the iconic Parle-G biscuit factory in Vile Parle East — is set to be demolished as part of a major commercial redevelopment project, bringing an end to an era deeply etched in the memories of generations of Mumbaikars.

The State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) has granted partial environmental clearance for the demolition of 21 aging structures on the historic factory site, clearing the way for a transformation of the 13.45-acre property into a modern commercial complex.

Parle Products had submitted redevelopment plans in mid-2025 to the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), triggering a process that will see the beloved landmark replaced by office spaces, retail areas, restaurants, and parking facilities spread across multiple buildings. The redevelopment plan is estimated at around ₹3,961 crore, reflecting the premium value of land in the city’s real estate market.

Though production at the Vile Parle factory ceased years ago, its lingering presence and the memories of its aroma have remained a symbol of Mumbai’s industrial heritage for decades. Locals remember the factory not just as a production site but as a cultural icon intertwining with daily life and childhood recollections.

Supporters of the redevelopment argue the transformation aligns with Mumbai’s evolving urban landscape and economic priorities, while heritage advocates and nostalgic residents lament the loss of an emotional touchstone.

Mumbai’s Iconic Parle-G Factory to Be Demolished
Reported by: Neha Jaiswal

Mumbai:
Mumbai’s iconic Parle-G biscuit factory, a landmark that has been part of the city’s industrial and cultural history for decades, is set to be demolished, marking the end of an era. The announcement has sparked nostalgia and emotional reactions among Mumbaikars and Parle-G lovers across the country.

Located in Vile Parle, the factory has been closely associated with India’s most loved biscuit brand, Parle-G, which became a household name over generations. While the brand will continue to exist, the physical site that witnessed its long journey is now being cleared as part of redevelopment plans.

Sources indicate that the land will be redeveloped for modern commercial and residential use, in line with Mumbai’s changing urban landscape. Company officials have clarified that manufacturing operations were already shifted to other facilities, and the demolition will not impact the production or availability of Parle-G biscuits.

Heritage lovers and citizens have expressed sadness over the loss of yet another historic industrial structure, calling it a reminder of Mumbai’s manufacturing legacy. Social media has been flooded with memories, photos, and tributes to the factory that symbolized simplicity, affordability, and trust.

As the factory prepares to make way for new development, the Parle-G brand continues to live on—but for many, this demolition closes a cherished chapter of Mumbai’s history.

🚨 What Triggered the Raid?

According to initial reports, the large-scale police presence descended on Bangar’s home as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities. Officials claim the raid was “routine,” but the sheer magnitude of the operation suggests otherwise.

Eyewitnesses described a scene akin to a major crackdown, with:

  • Security heightened around the residence

As the news broke, social media erupted with speculation, humor, criticism, and heated political debate.

🔥 Hemant Patil’s Political Counterattack

Patil accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misusing state machinery to silence opposition voices. His sharp comments included claims that:

  • The raid was executed to intimidate political rivals

  • BJP is attempting to “crush” dissent through force

  • The timing of the raid hints at a larger political conspiracy

His speech has further inflamed an already volatile political atmosphere.

🏛️ BJP Responds: ‘Baseless Allegations’

In response to Patil’s accusations, BJP representatives have dismissed the claims as “baseless” and “irresponsible.” Party leaders emphasized that:

  • Law enforcement agencies are operating independently

  • The raid was part of a legal procedure

  • Opposition parties are trying to politicize the matter

Despite their clarification, public perception remains divided.

📊 What Does This Mean for Maharashtra Politics?

This incident could have far-reaching implications, especially with local elections approaching. Analysts predict:

1. Intensified Rivalries

Expect sharper verbal battles as political leaders attempt to capitalize on the situation.

  • Supporters of Bangar see the raid as harassment.

  • Critics argue that if wrongdoing occurred, an investigation is justified.

  • Neutral observers question the timing and scale of the operation.

Social platforms have become battlegrounds for political memes, debates, and breaking updates.

🔍 What Happens Next?

With investigations ongoing and political tensions escalating, all eyes are now on:

  • The findings of the police search
