IMD Issues Alert: Extreme Heat and Dangerous UV Levels Expected Across India
New Delhi — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nationwide alert warning of extreme heatwave conditions and dangerously high UV radiation levels in several parts of the country.
According to IMD officials, temperatures are expected to rise significantly above normal in the coming days, especially across northern, central, and western regions. The combination of intense heat and high ultraviolet (UV) exposure could pose serious health risks.
Authorities have advised citizens to take necessary precautions, including:
- Avoiding direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours
- Staying hydrated and wearing protective clothing
- Using sunscreen and protective eyewear to reduce UV exposure
Health experts warn that prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke, particularly among children, elderly individuals, and outdoor workers.
State governments and local administrations have been urged to stay prepared, with measures such as setting up cooling centers and ensuring water availability in public places.
The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and is expected to release further updates as weather conditions evolve.
Citizens are advised to stay informed through official channels and follow safety guidelines to minimize risks.
