Heavy Snowfall Alert for North Indian Hills.

New Delhi, February 11, 2026 — The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh weather warnings as heavy snowfall continues and intensifies over the northern hill states, prompting alerts for residents, tourists and travellers across the region. The alert affects major hill areas including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, where snow has already blanketed landscapes and could further disrupt travel and daily life.

According to the latest forecasts, continuous snowfall in the higher reaches has already transformed many hill stations into winter wonderlands, but also caused travel delays, traffic slowdowns and reduced visibility on key mountain roads. Authorities have cautioned that snow accumulation could make several routes slippery or impassable without proper snow clearance and tyre chains.

The cold spell persists as a weather system from the northwest brings intense cold wave conditions along with rain and snow in higher altitudes. This has led to dense fog in plains, further affecting visibility and road transport in several northern states.

Tourism officials and local administrations have issued travel advisories, urging people to avoid unnecessary travel into high-altitude areas and to stay updated on changing weather conditions. Emergency teams are on standby to support motorists and tourists who may encounter snow-related delays or road closures.

With winter still in effect in many hill regions, residents are also advised to take precautions against plummeting temperatures and prepare for possible disruptions in connectivity and power supply in remote areas.

Dense Fog Disrupts Flight Operations at Delhi Airport
Reported by: Neha Jaiswal

New Delhi:
Severe dense fog conditions disrupted normal operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday, leading to delays and cancellations of several flights. Low visibility during early morning hours caused inconvenience to hundreds of passengers.

Airport officials said that visibility dropped sharply, affecting both arrival and departure schedules. Several flights were delayed, while some were diverted to nearby airports as a safety measure. Airlines issued advisories, requesting passengers to check flight status before heading to the airport.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier forecast dense fog over the national capital, warning of possible disruptions in air, rail, and road traffic. Despite advanced landing systems in place, prolonged low visibility continued to impact operations.

Passengers at the airport were seen waiting for updates, while airlines and ground staff worked to manage the situation. Authorities assured that operations would gradually normalize as weather conditions improve.

With winter conditions intensifying, officials have urged travelers to plan ahead and remain alert for further advisories, as foggy weather is expected to persist over the next few days.

New Delhi, India — Flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were severely disrupted on Tuesday morning as dense fog and low visibility blanketed the national capital, forcing major schedule changes and travel chaos for passengers.

According to airport and weather officials, 118 flights were cancelled — including both arrivals and departures — while 16 aircraft were diverted to alternate airports such as Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Lucknow due to poor runway visibility.

Meteorological Department (IMD) reported early-morning visibility dropping to dangerously low levels, with fog reducing sightlines to just a few dozen metres in places. A yellow alert was issued for Delhi, and the fog also contributed to delays for more than 130 other flights throughout the day.

Delhi Airport operator DIAL stated that flights equipped with CAT-III low-visibility landing systems continued operations, while others faced cancellations or diversions to ensure safety amid adverse weather conditions.

Civil aviation authorities have urged passengers to check flight statuses with airlines before departing for the airport and allow extra travel time. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has also instructed carriers to comply with passenger facilitation norms — including providing timely updates, meals for delayed passengers and rebooking or refunds for cancelled flights.

The fog-related disruption comes amid wider winter weather challenges across northern India, with commuter trains and road transport also facing delays due to extremely low visibility.
