Reported by Ramchandra M. Chatri

Mumbai: Mumbai Police ki Anti-Narcotics Cell ne ek bade drug racket ka khulasa karte hue alleged MD drugs dealer Komil Merchant ko investigation ke daayre mein liya hai. Sources ke mutabik, investigation ke dauran ek Mumbai-based TV connection bhi saamne aaya hai, jisne is poore case ko aur bhi sensational bana diya hai.

Police ke anusar, Komil Merchant par MD (Mephedrone) jaise synthetic drugs ke supply network ko operate karne ka aarop hai. Yeh drugs Mumbai aur aas-paas ke shehron mein party circuits aur high-profile circles tak pahunchaye ja rahe the.

Investigation agencies bank transactions, phone records aur social media communication ka bhi detailed analysis kar rahi hain.

Authorities ka maanna hai ki agar TV industry connection confirm hota hai, toh yeh case Mumbai ke entertainment sector mein drugs ke use aur supply ko lekar ek bada mudda ban sakta hai.

Portuguese ne 16vi sadi mein is sthaan ko “Bom Bahia” yani “Good Bay” kaha, jo baad mein angrezi prabhav ke saath “Bombay” ban gaya. British raj ke dauran yeh naam adhikarik roop se istemal hota raha.

1990 ke dashak mein, Maharashtra ki regional political party Shiv Sena ne shehar ka naam badal kar “Mumbai” karne ki maang uthayi. Party ka kehna tha ki shehar ka asli aur paramparik naam “Mumbai” hai, jo sthaniya devi Mumbadevi ke naam par pada.

1995 mein Maharashtra sarkar ne adhikarik roop se “Bombay” ka naam badal kar “Mumbai” kar diya. Iske baad dheere-dheere railway stations, airport, government documents aur anya sansthano mein bhi “Mumbai” naam ka upyog shuru ho gaya.

Naam badalne ka faisla kuch logon ke liye asmita aur sanskritik pehchaan ka prateek tha, jabki kuch anya logon ne ise sirf political decision bataya. Aaj bhi kai log aadat ke taur par “Bombay” shabd ka istemal karte hain, lekin adhikarik taur par shehar ka naam “Mumbai” hi hai.

Yeh kahani sirf ek naam badalne ki nahi, balki itihaas, rajneeti aur sthaniya garv ki kahani bhi hai — jo aaj ke Mumbai ki pehchaan ka hissa ban chuki hai.

Truck Rods Make Ertiga Dangerous

Mumbai, February 11, 2026 — A serious road safety concern surfaced after a Maruti Ertiga car collided with a truck carrying long iron rods, leaving the vehicle severely damaged and raising questions over highway safety norms.

The incident reportedly took place on a busy stretch where the truck was transporting extended metal rods that were protruding beyond the vehicle’s rear without adequate warning indicators. During traffic movement, the Ertiga rammed into the rods, causing major damage to the front portion of the car.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the rods were not properly marked with reflectors or red flags, which are mandatory safety requirements for vehicles carrying oversized or projecting loads. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, though occupants of the car sustained minor injuries and were given medical attention.

Traffic police officials reached the scene and initiated an inquiry. Authorities stated that strict action would be taken if violations of transport safety rules are confirmed. “Vehicles carrying projecting materials must follow safety guidelines to prevent such dangerous situations,” an official said.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks posed by improperly secured cargo on highways. Commuters have urged stricter enforcement of safety norms to avoid potential tragedies.

Further investigation is underway.

Lonavala Traffic Department and Toll Naka Fail to Manage Traffic

Lonavala, February 11, 2026 — Weekend rush once again turned chaotic on the Mumbai–Pune route as massive traffic congestion was reported near Lonavala and adjoining toll nakas, leaving commuters stranded for hours. Several travelers alleged that the Lonavala Traffic Department and toll management authorities failed to control the situation effectively, resulting in long vehicle queues stretching for kilometres.

According to motorists, the jam intensified due to heavy tourist inflow, ongoing road repair work, and slow movement at toll booths. Commuters claimed that despite visible congestion, there was lack of proper traffic regulation, lane discipline, and timely diversion management. Many families heading towards hill stations reported being stuck for over 3–4 hours.

Local drivers also pointed out that poor coordination between highway authorities and toll operators worsened the situation. “There was no clear guidance or active monitoring. Vehicles were merging randomly, creating bottlenecks near the toll plaza,” said one commuter.

Meanwhile, officials from the traffic department stated that heavy weekend tourism and increased vehicle movement were primary reasons for the congestion. Authorities claimed that additional personnel were deployed to ease the flow and advised travelers to check traffic updates before planning trips.

The recurring traffic chaos has raised questions about infrastructure preparedness during peak travel seasons. Regular commuters are demanding better planning, real-time monitoring systems, and stricter toll management to prevent such disruptions in the future.

Further updates are awaited on measures being planned to address the issue.
