Garib Nagar Demolition Drive Sparks Tension in Bandra East
A demolition drive carried out in Mumbai’s Garib Nagar area of Bandra East created tension and chaos among local residents, as civic authorities arrived at the spot to remove alleged illegal structures. Several families claimed that they were caught unprepared and demanded more time before the action was taken.
Heavy police security was deployed in the area to maintain law and order during the demolition process. Residents protested against the action, alleging that many poor families were being left homeless without proper rehabilitation arrangements.
Officials stated that the demolition was conducted as part of an anti-encroachment operation and in accordance with civic regulations. Authorities also appealed to residents to cooperate with the administration during the process.
The incident has once again highlighted the ongoing struggle between redevelopment, encroachment actions, and rehabilitation concerns faced by residents living in densely populated areas of Mumbai.
