New Delhi: A tragic road accident on the Barapullah Flyover in Delhi has claimed one life and left six others injured in the early hours of Monday, police said. The mishap occurred when a Mahindra Scorpio lost control, struck a central divider and overturned near the busy arterial route connecting south and central parts of the city.

According to officials, a PCR call was received around *2:30 am at Sunlight Colony police station alerting authorities to a serious crash involving the SUV with multiple occupants. Emergency teams rushed to the scene to find the mangled vehicle, after which the injured were transported to AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment.

Among those taken to hospital were six persons — identified as Nikhil, Gagan (19), Bhisam (25), Yuvraj (20), Maan (16) and Himanshu (23) — all of whom sustained injuries of varying severity. During medical examination, Harsh (26) was tragically declared dead, the police confirmed.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that the vehicle may have been travelling at high speed before it hit the divider and flipped over, though the exact cause of loss of control is still being probed. Police have registered a case and are examining CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts to determine the sequence of events leading up to the crash.

The incident has once again drawn attention to road safety concerns in Delhi, especially on busy flyovers during late-night and early-morning hours, when traffic is lighter but risks from speed and driver fatigue may be higher.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits, and avoid risky driving behaviour to prevent similar tragedies.
