Satara, Maharashtra: In a heartbreaking turn of events that has left an entire village in mourning, an Indian Army soldier lost his life just hours before his baby daughter was born, leaving behind a grief-stricken wife and relatives struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
Havildar Pramod Jadhav, who was posted in Leh-Ladakh, had returned to his native Dare Turf Aare village in Satara district to be with his wife Rutuja as she prepared to give birth. On the night before the delivery, while returning to bring her belongings, Jadhav was hit by a mini-truck in a road accident and succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
Unaware of the accident, Rutuja delivered a baby girl early the next morning. Relatives and hospital staff then informed her of her husband’s death. In a profoundly emotional moment, Rutuja — still on a hospital stretcher — was brought to the village ground for her husband’s last rites, cradling their newborn as villagers watched in tears.
The scene moved many to heartbreak: the newborn was placed beside her father draped in the Indian flag, while family members and neighbors wept openly at the loss of a soldier who had come home to celebrate what should have been one of the happiest days of his life.
The tragic accident has thrown the household into deep sorrow, with Rutuja now facing the future alone with her newborn amid the overwhelming grief of losing her husband so cruelly close to the moment of new life.
