Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav was taken to Tihar Jail in connection with a cheque-bounce case, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
According to legal sources, the action follows proceedings in a long-pending financial dispute case registered under provisions related to dishonour of cheque. The court reportedly issued necessary directions after Yadav failed to comply with earlier orders linked to repayment.
Police officials stated that the actor was produced before the concerned court before being sent to judicial custody as per legal procedure. His legal team is expected to move an application for relief in the matter.
Cheque-bounce cases fall under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, which deals with dishonour of cheques due to insufficient funds or non-payment.
So far, no official statement has been released by Rajpal Yadav regarding the development.
