Nalbari, Assam — A disturbing incident ahead of Christmas has led to four arrests in Assam’s Nalbari district, after members linked to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal allegedly vandalised Christmas decorations at a local school and surrounding areas. The arrests took place on December 25, 2025, following police action against the accused.
According to police, the group unlawfully entered the St. Mary’s English School premises in Panigaon village and damaged festive décor, street lights, plant pots and other items prepared for Christmas celebrations. Some materials were reportedly set on fire, resulting in property loss.
The suspects — identified as Bhaskar Deka (VHP Nalbari district secretary), Manash Jyoti Patgiri (VHP vice-president), Biju Dutta (VHP assistant secretary) and Nayan Talukdar (Bajrang Dal district convenor) — were taken into custody under relevant sections of the law. Police said the group was also heard issuing warnings against Christmas observances on school grounds.
Authorities have registered a case at Belsor Police Station and launched a detailed investigation. Officials emphasised that law and order will be strictly upheld, and further action will be taken as legal proceedings continue.
