“Blinkit Drops 10-Minute Delivery Claim”
— Reported by Neha Jaiswal
New Delhi: In a significant shift in India’s quick-commerce landscape, popular grocery delivery platform Blinkit has officially dropped its much-advertised “10-minute delivery” claim, following sustained government pressure and safety concerns related to ultra-fast delivery expectations.
Blinkit, known for promising groceries and essentials in just ten minutes, removed references to the 10-minute promise from its app, marketing and branding after the Union Labour Ministry flagged serious concerns over rider safety and work conditions tied to rigid delivery timelines.
The government’s intervention comes amid growing discussion about the risks faced by gig workers, who have reportedly felt pressured to meet unrealistic deadlines that could compromise their safety on the road. 🚴♂️💨
While Blinkit has dropped the 10-minute tagline, the company has shifted its messaging to emphasise fast doorstep delivery without a fixed time promise, part of a broader industry response. Analysts say this move may encourage competitors such as Swiggy and Zepto to revise similar claims as regulators scrutinise quick-commerce standards.
Industry and labour advocates have welcomed the change, saying it marks a step toward balancing customer convenience with the well-being of delivery partners. However, some experts note that companies will need ongoing oversight and stronger worker protections to ensure safety improvements go beyond branding adjustments.
