“Salman Zyada Hindu?” Nitesh Rane’s Sharp Attack on Uddhav Thackeray
Mumbai, February 11, 2026 — Maharashtra politics witnessed fresh verbal sparring after BJP leader Nitesh Rane launched a sharp attack on Uddhav Thackeray, making a controversial remark that has now sparked political debate across the state.
Addressing a public gathering, Rane questioned Thackeray’s political positioning and alleged ideological shift, stating, “Salman zyada Hindu?” — a comment seen as a sarcastic jibe aimed at challenging Thackeray’s stance on Hindutva politics.
The remark has triggered strong reactions from Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders, who condemned the statement and accused Rane of attempting to divert attention from pressing governance issues. Party representatives said such comments lower the level of political discourse and are meant only to provoke sentiments.
On the other hand, BJP supporters defended Rane, claiming his statement was directed at what they describe as inconsistencies in the opposition’s ideological narrative.
Political analysts believe the comment is part of the ongoing war of words between Maharashtra’s major parties ahead of upcoming political developments in the state. The exchange highlights the continuing battle over the Hindutva narrative, which remains central to state politics.
So far, Uddhav Thackeray has not personally responded to the remark.
The controversy continues to gain traction on social media, with leaders from both sides trading statements.
