Mumbai, Maharashtra — As New Year 2026 approaches, the Mumbai Traffic Police has issued an important traffic advisory to ensure smooth movement and safety for residents and visitors during the holiday period. With celebrations expected across the city, authorities have stepped up traffic management plans and public safety measures.
🔹 Traffic Restrictions & Road Closures:
Motorists have been advised to avoid driving in high-crowd zones such as Marine Drive, Bandra Reclamation, and Carter Road during peak celebration hours, as parking restrictions and partial road closures will be in place to reduce congestion and allow emergency access.
🔹 Parking & Diversions:
No-parking zones will be enforced along key waterfront stretches. Drivers heading to busy areas are encouraged to use designated parking lots and multi-level facilities to avoid fines and delays once celebrations begin.
🔹 Extended Public Transport Services:
To help commuters reach home after late-night festivities, Mumbai Metro and local train services are expected to operate with extended hours and extra services, especially along major routes, ensuring safer travel options and reducing dependence on private vehicles.
🔹 Strict Enforcement:
Traffic police will be enforcing speed limits, seatbelt and helmet rules, and drunk-driving checks throughout the New Year period. Past years have seen significant challans issued for violations, and this year police have reiterated that safety will be the top priority.
Authorities have also urged Mumbaikars to plan travel in advance, use public transport where possible, and follow police directions for a trouble-free and enjoyable New Year celebration.
