Reported by: Ramchandra M. Chatri
Mumbai:
Panic and traffic disruption were reported in Bandra West after a 24-inch water pipeline burst near the highway on Tuesday, flooding the surrounding area and affecting vehicular movement.
According to civic officials, the pipeline burst led to heavy water leakage, causing waterlogging on the main road and nearby lanes. Several vehicles were seen stranded as traffic slowed down significantly. Local residents also reported a temporary drop in water pressure in adjoining areas.
BMC emergency teams rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported. Repair work was immediately initiated, and barricades were placed to prevent accidents. Officials stated that the exact cause of the pipeline burst is being investigated, with pressure fluctuation suspected as a possible reason.
Police were deployed to manage traffic and ensure public safety, while motorists were advised to avoid the stretch and use alternate routes until repairs are completed.
Civic authorities have assured that the pipeline will be restored at the earliest and normal water supply is expected to resume once repair work is finished. The incident once again highlights concerns over aging infrastructure in parts of Mumbai.
