100+ Women Smash Liquor Worth ₹15 Lakh in Lalitpur
Lalitpur, February 11, 2026 — In a dramatic protest against illegal liquor trade, over 100 women in Uttar Pradesh’s Lalitpur district allegedly stormed a local liquor outlet and destroyed alcohol bottles worth nearly ₹15 lakh, officials said.
According to local sources, the women, many of whom belong to self-help groups, gathered in large numbers alleging that the sale of liquor in their area was causing social problems, including domestic disputes and financial distress within families. Eyewitnesses reported that the group entered the premises and smashed bottles stored inside the shop.
Police reached the spot shortly after receiving information about the incident and brought the situation under control. Authorities confirmed that an investigation has been launched, and CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to identify those involved.
A senior district official stated that while grievances can be raised through legal channels, taking the law into one’s own hands is not acceptable. “We are looking into both the allegations regarding illegal liquor sales and the damage caused during the protest,” the official said.
The incident has sparked debate in the region, with some residents supporting the women’s stand against alcohol abuse, while others questioned the method adopted during the protest.
Further legal action is expected as the probe continues.
